SAN DIEGO NATIVE AND ANIMATION ARTIST/COMIC BOOK CREATOR, BOBBY RUBIO, LAUNCHES NATIONAL DEBUT OF
ALCATRAZ HIGH ISSUE #4 IN SAN DIEGO

San Diego, Calif. -- Native San Diegan, Bobby Rubio, is launching issue #4 of his creator-owned comic book Alcatraz High, at the 2008 San Diego Comic Convention, starting July 23. Bobby elected to do his national debut of Alcatraz High issue #4 in his hometown of San Diego, just as he did the last five years with issue #0, #1, #2, #3 and #3.5.

Based on an idea Rubio had when he was at Samuel F.B. Morse High School, Alcatraz High unfolds the tale of a futuristic high school. The comic captures all your typical high school experiences of football games, cheerleaders and bad cafeteria food, but with twists. At Alcatraz High, these every day high school kids are met by robotic security guards, free-flying security drones, force field fences and high tech gadgets, taking the comic reader to another world!

Rubio was born and raised in San Diego and has been drawing since he was a child. While attending Morse High School, he won a drawing contest with The San Diego Union Tribune. After high school, he attended the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Arts. After graduation, he worked for Homage Studios (Image Comics) in La Jolla, and then continued on to pursue a career in animation. After nine years with Walt Disney Feature Animation as a traditional animator and storyboard artist, Bobby then worked as an Assistant Director/Storyboard Artist for Nickelodeon Animation Studios on the series "Avatar: The Last Airbender" for 2 and 1/2 years. Currently, Bobby is a Story Artist on various upcoming projects for Pixar Animation Studios.

The 2008 San Diego Comic Convention will run from July 24 – 27 (with a preview night on July 23.) For more information on Alcatraz High and to get a sneak peek of the cover of Alcatraz High #4, visit www.alcatrazhigh.com.
